What Does the Bible Say? Angels activate our imagination. Popular media and culture portray them with wings, as strong warriors, or as cute, precious babies. Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness included glimpses into the unseen realm of demons and angels, and fantastic battles with swords—surely part of the reason the book sold so many copies. While fun to imagine, it’s also important for Christians to distinguish between creative portrayals of angels and what the Bible actually says. One of the questions many people have regarding angels is a simple one. Can angels die? Does the Bible give us any clues? Let's explore this question more in this article.Photo credit: ©Getty Images/mbolina Fri, 27 Jun 2025 06:40:00 -0400 2026-03-31T02:03:24-04:00 https://www.christianity.com/wiki/angels-and-demons/how-did-the-serpent-speak-to-eve.html https://www.christianity.com/wiki/angels-and-demons/how-did-the-serpent-speak-to-eve.html Jenna Brooke Carlson https://www.christianity.com/author/jenna-brooke-carlson/ How Did the Serpent Speak to Eve? I burned my hand taking overdone cinnamon buns out of the oven. “The devil!” I lost my keys while scouring the couch for my lost cellphone. “The devil!” An acquaintance I barely know texted me a 500-word paragraph when I asked how her day was, actually thinking I would read all that. “The devil!” We say things like, “The devil is in the details.” But is he, really? With all the evil prevalent in our world, do we truly believe the devil is orchestrating burned hands, lost cell phones, and boundaryless acquaintances? There are three categories of Christians today: Those who believe the devil is responsible for any and everything unholy and uncomfortable; those who believe the devil is locked far away in hell, unable to attend to human affairs; and those who believe in a balanced, biblical view of Satan’s activity in the world. To understand the purpose of a thing, you must go back to its origin. According to the prophet Ezekiel, Satan, also known as the devil or the enemy, and formerly known as Lucifer, was a beautiful and wise angelic being who, due to his sin, was expelled from God’s presence and subjugated to Earth (Ezekiel 28:12-19). And just what was that sin? Pride. According to the prophet Isaiah, Satan didn’t want only to be like God, he tried to dethrone God (Isaiah 14:13-14). So God threw him down from heaven (Luke 10:18). He quite literally fell from grace.  Photo Credit: ©Getty Images/KatarzynaBialasiewicz Fri, 16 May 2025 15:05:00 -0400 2026-03-31T02:03:24-04:00 https://www.christianity.com/wiki/angels-and-demons/why-were-satan-and-the-angel-michael-disputing-over-the-body-of-moses.html https://www.christianity.com/wiki/angels-and-demons/why-were-satan-and-the-angel-michael-disputing-over-the-body-of-moses.html Britt Mooney https://www.christianity.com/author/britt-mooney/ Why Were Satan and the Angel Michael Disputing over the Body of Moses? This article highlights seven key quotes spoken by angels and explains what each one teaches us about God’s purpose and presence.Angels appear throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. The Hebrew word for “angel” in the Old Testament is mal’akh, which means simply a messenger, both human and supernatural. In context, mal’akh describes angels when they are spiritual beings sent by God to deliver messages, protect, or generally execute the will of God. In the New Testament, we get the word “angel” from the Greek angelos, which also means messenger. Angels serve several purposes throughout the Scripture, most importantly as beings sent by God to deliver his words, hence the name. Angels also protect and guide God’s people. In heaven, we see them worship god continually (Revelation 4). Other times, God sends angels to bring judgment. In the Old Testament, often when an angel delivers a message from God, the text will alternate between “the angel said” and “God said.” Ultimately, when a being repeats God’s message in obedience, it works as if God himself said it. Therefore, we can look at the words of angels throughout the Bible and learn about God’s character and plan. Here are seven angel quotes and what they mean for us today.Photo credit: ©Thinkstock Thu, 13 Mar 2025 10:45:00 -0400 2026-03-31T02:03:24-04:00
